Klappentext:

Born in 1834, daughter of an Irish bank manager, Mary Barry had quite early a vocation to be a nun. The Order she joined was tie Institute of the B.V.M. where she had been educated, and where she felt quite sure she would end her days in the quiet routine of an Irish school. When at the age of 41 she learnt that she was to be the first Superior of a new foundation in Australia, the prospect nearly danted her. But in the true spirit of Mary Ward, the foundress of her order, and pioneer of all the Active Orders, she steeled her courage and went. In the fourty years that remained to her she blazed the trail of Catholic education in that vast land, overcoming every difficulty fo distance, prejudice, lack of resources and Governmental indifference.
It is thanks to her that the I.B.V.M. now has twelve flourishing houses in Australia and that Catholic education is nowhere more soundly established. But above all, Mother Gonzaga possessed the art of friendship. And in this record of her many contacts and acquaintances ma be found the secret of her lasting memory.
